The Waldorf Astoria New York popularized several concepts we now take for granted:

Before the Waldorf, a hotel was somewhere you slept. After it, a great hotel became somewhere you lived — dining, celebrating, and being looked after without ever stepping outside.

Lesson: Hotels gradually evolved from merely providing beds into complete lifestyle destinations.
